Employment Opportunities

The Syracuse University Recreation Services Department employs students in a number of programs and activities. Some positions require certification and experience while others allow for little or no experience with mandatory training sessions. Work-study students are always preferred, but in a few cases, (e.g. lifeguarding), non-work study students will be considered. Become part of an exciting team of student employees!

Fitness Center Attendant
Responsible for supervision of participants using the Fitness Center equipment, monitoring facility access  and  ensuring  the cleanliness of machines and facility.

Fitness Instructors
Requires fitness instructor  & CPR/AED certification.

Intramural Officials
Referee flag football, outdoor and indoor soccer, softball, floor hockey, volleyball and basketball. Experience or prior training is not required, but a basic foundation in the rules of the game is. Must attend referee clinic prior to start of sport season.

Late Night at the Gym
Responsibilities include those of Fitness Center and Service Center Attendants. This program takes place Wednesday through Saturday. 10:00 pm –1:00 am.

Lifeguards
Lifeguards are staffed at the two campus aquatics facilities.
Lifeguards must have a current certification.

Office Assistant
Responsible for greeting patrons, answering phones, fielding questions about fitness classes and programs offered, filing, updating data base, issuing passes and other office duties assigned.

Outdoor Adventure Trip Leader  
Responsible for organizing and leading various outdoor adventure trips.

Challenge Course Facilitator
Responsible for working with teambuilding groups on the indoor and outdoor challenge course.

Personal Trainers
Certified personal trainers. Requires Exercise Science or Nutrition Majors and/or ACE, ACSM or NASM personal training certification.

Service Center Attendant
Welcome, greet and provide assistance to facility users; issue sports equipment to students and patrons with valid ID; laundry service for departmental use; enforce all facility and program policies; perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Skate Guards/Pro Shop Attendants
The Tennity Ice Skating Rink hires students as skate guards and pro shop attendants, as well as instructors and hockey officials.

Special Event Staff
Supervise special events including club sport competitions, softball, flag football, basketball and volleyball activities.
